22/11/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (Xtreem - english)

I was not hopping that the second CD of the Spanish band BAALPHEGOR as so good, I remember their previous album “The End Of Descent” and I'm agree it was a good album but their new musical work overcomes it in every sense overcoat in the musical thing. The album starts with the song “Manipulated Nerves Impulse” and what a bump beginning mix of Death Metal, Brutal and Technical well, and this way the whole album. About time that I did not like so much a Brutal Death album and BAALPHEGOR have obtained it and of that way!!! To all good fan of Death Metal would like without doubt at the first listening, but as you go listening to it again and again, you see and notice in new details that make it more interesting. Mi favourite tracks of the album are “Humtec Sphere”, “The New Adoreds” that lasts more than 7 minutes and “Post Earthquake Age”, an instrumental song that begins with a pace of claps and Flemish box later to turn into a heavy whirlwind though all the album is excelent. I can say some prestige bands in this style in order you do an idea, bands as CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, MORBID ANGEL and even the Canadians NEURAXIS, and the best of everything is that BAALPHEGOR with their second full-lenght does not have anything to envy to the mentioned bands and that is a very good sympton. About time that I was not putting a high punctuation Since some groups of prestige in the extreme world it seems that they are getting accommodated and becoming monotonous, bored and they do not offer anything new but BAALPHEGOR already they were good, but they have improved very much that is what it is necessary to do, improve CD to CD and they have it very well-deservedly.

Baalphegor (Spain) has released their second full length and again you hear 9 technical, melodic death metal. Deep growling vocals, which could use some more different intonations, over fast songs. Guitars that shred, bring melody and having a catchy flow but also doing frenzy leads. To complete the brutality the drums are raging with double bass blasts. It is not continuess a battery assault but also containing breaks or even atmospheric quiet parts like in "Humtec Sphere". "Post Earthquake Age" is not an average death metal album but it hides nice elements of aggressiveness and variation.

01/12/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (Metal Observer - deutsch)

14/11/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (Schwermetall - deutsch)

12/10/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (Stormbringer - deutsch)

15/09/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (SUPREME BRUTALITY - english)

Review SUPREME BRUTALITY:

The Spanish deathers Baalphegor have two CD's in their luggage prior to Post Earthquake Age and this can clearly be heard. The music is technical death metal with some references to Cynic, Necrophagist, Decapitated and Cryptopsy. Blend these four bands and you have a pretty accurate idea of how Baalphegor sound.

The music is fairly versatile. It vary from slow Cynic type of escapades in "Humtec Sphere" to Cryptopsy-like brutality in "Ansphina", but most of the time the band rely more on the faster and brutal fundamentals than on the slower and awkward things. Perhaps a shame, but it's all done in a controlled and balanced way. Still it doesn't hurt when a bit of programming or a lead pop up now and then. The music is packed with tempo changes, hooks and plain odd ideas. It quickly becomes clear that diversity is a keyword for the Spaniards.

The whole thing was produced, mixed and mastered guitarist David Fernandez. This has resulted in a fat and powerful production. Musically there's hardly anything here that hasn't already been done one way or the other, but Baalphegor are able to give the music their touch and that is what it comes down to in the end. If you like your death metal technical then Post Earthquake Age is a safe buy.

10/09/06 POST EARTHQUAKE AGE (METAL FACTORY - deutsch)

Review METAL FACTORY:

Review VOMIT THE SOUL Zine:

With “Post Earthquake Age”, BAALPHEGOR comes and unleashes 9 tracks (including a short inerlude) of Brutal Death Metal right in your face!! I often don't agree with the bands named in bands bio to describe the music played on the CD, but here, mentionning MORBID ANGEL, VILE and CRYPTOPSY, there's almost nothing to add! BAALPHEGOR is a perfect mixture of these 3 great influences – think about latest releases for MORBID ANGEL. And maybe only a band like DECAPITATED could be named for some massive parts typical to the bands, but that's all!! About the sound, still nothing to say, this is powerful and dynamic for all the instruments, grunts, lead guitars, etc. Yep, this album is definitely a wonderful album of Brutal Death Metal, on which the only weak point could be the missing of a touch typical to the band, like a trademark or so. I'm not talking about a lack of originality at all! It misses just something to become the BAALPHEGOR touch! At last this is a very good album! BUY OR DIE!!!

:: Kritik : BAALPHEGOR "Post Earthquake Age" (10.09.2006)
Fastbeast Entertainment - 2006 - Ispanya

Die Vorbilder stimmen also schon mal.

Baalphegor - _Post Earthquake Age_
(Fastbeast Entertainment, 2006)

by: Jackie Smit (7 out of 10)

Had Baalphegor released their sophomore effort a decade ago, the world would still be reeling. Hell, it's not unlikely that Girona would have been mentioned in the same hushed tones as Tampa Bay in certain circles. As it is, the Spanish quintet have turned in an impressive collection of ultra-technical, ultra-brutal death metal with _Post Earthquake Age_. The onslaught is relentless, and with the odd deviation from a formula Trey Azagthoth really should get patented, the likes of "Ansphina" and "Source of Energy" will stick in the back of your mind longer than most. But like Germany's Necrophagist, Baalphegor lay their sod in territory that's been run bare by a cornucopia of other acts just a little too often for _Post Earthquake Age_ to be classed as something truly exceptional. By the time the record has past five plays, the urge to devote time to it rather than, say, the new Suffocation is likely to dwindle all too rapidly.

Baalphegor - Post Earthquake Age

Baalphegor - The End Of Descent
After I've heard this promo-cd of their new work "The End of Descent" I only got a question: How a band like Baalphegor have to self-produce and self-edit their cd and not a label? The quality of this spanish band is incredible, we can note her professionality and in spite of the fact I've only heard 3 of the 11 tracks featured in this work. The perfect combination between technical habilities and brutality it's appreciated at the first moment, very worked songs with incredibles rythm changes and really brutal parts, with influences from Morbid Angel to Suffocation... The drums are crushing, it seems a gun unloading all its potential... The voice is bestial too, and to tally perfectly with the music of the band... The tracks structures will be you left aghast, and this deserves that you buy this impressive work immediatly and help the band... I hope that his new work will be out by a label, because really they merits to sign already!!

Baalphegor - The End Of Descent
Ok....the first thing I have to say is this...WHY THE HELL ARE THESE GUYS STILL LOOKING FOR A LABEL??!!...This band should be signed immediately!!!! The music contained on this cd is, simply put, BRUTAL death metal in every sence of the term. The band plays heavy, fast, and technical music but they always keep that RAW and INTENSE emotional disharmonic rage that makes the brutality seem, at times, overwhelming. The drums sound like an M16 being fired against your ear drum...The guitars scream as they are being pushed to the brink of destruction by blood thirsty madmen...The bass is like the relentless pounding of trapped christians against a cell door in an asylum from helll...and the vocals just reek with the bile that must be choked up to make these inhuman, beastial, overly demented and twisted sounds. There is no reason for these guys to not be signed to a major label. The production on this promo is outstanding and rivals some, if not most, of the cd's I own from major labels like Metal Blade or Relapse...and get this...IT WAS DONE ON A PERSONAL COMPUTER!!!! Some of the major labels need to take notice and realize there is REAL talent out there and not this crap they are trying to pass off as "heavy"....GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND SIGN THESE GUYS!!!! Xtreem Music BAALPHEGOR : Promo 2002 ( The End Of Descent)
What I'm reviewing now is a promo with three songs that the band is using to try to get a deal. The songs are taken from the 11 they recorded and that form their debut record entitled "The End Of Descent". Undoubtedly, these new songs are of a high quality, although the new stuff lost a bit of their earlier brutality. And I'm not telling you that the band is not brutal... They're still fast and brutal, but not as much as on their previous demo! This time it sounds to me like a mix between early Death Metal in the vein of MORBID ANGEL and newer bands like DYING FETUS or maybe CRYPTOPSY. The musicianship is really awesome and the songs are absolutely well structured and perfectly executed and all in all, if the 11 songs they've done for this (at the moment) unreleased record sound similar, I really think that this is going to be a perfect release, for sure. They still sound American, but a lot more technical and varied than before. Vocally, it reminds me to bands like DIABOLIC or maybe MALEVOLENT CREATION, with an aggressive, yet guttural voice that fits perfectly with the whole of the music. I really hope the band the best of luck on finding a proper label to release this newer stuff and I think that if it sometimes see the light of day, it can be an excellent release.

BLOOD CIFERY BAALPHEGOR
"THE END OF DESCENT"
I have told it several times, our scene only needs something of support, less envies and more promotion, to be compared to any scene, both European as world-wide. Lately the litter of Brutal Death has given some gnarled sprouts, extremes and sickly, see you the case of Wormed, Human Mincer, Cerebral Effusion, Forensick, among many other... as it is the case of this quintet (a new guitar, Marc Plana has just entered in the band) of Girona that present us an advance in form of CD-R with three topics of Death Metal Brutal at the same time that technician, with a sound to the purest style in the sublime scene of Florida, (althought these they sound maybe a little more current) and with Morbid Angel like clear reference. It jumps to the hate (as commonly it is said) the instrumental quality that the band possesses, creating rhythms with constant changes, gnarled riffs, stratospherics solos, dark atmospheres, lot of blasts beats, everything it with the presence of an aggressive voice (without to become hiper guttural) that fuses perfectly with the rest of the music.
Maybe what I am surprised is how a band with this quality has been had to publish, to produce, to mix, (fuck!! all the work) and they doesn't still have label (or at least I don't have that information), things of the life you already know.

The End Of Descent
Baalphegor, the name on its various versions, is a well known name similarly to the names of Baphomet and Morgoth, mythological gods of evil, in one faerie tale or another. Baalphegor, should anyone will bump into that name, isn't by any means the Black Metal band Belphegor, otherwise I wouldn't bother myself writing about them…
Baalphegor, the band, hails from the town of Girona, Spain and the year of its formation is 1996. In the time being, the band already played in concerts in Madrid and Catalonia with names such as Cryptopsy, Vader, Dying Fetus, Yattering and Undertakers. The CD-R demo consists of 3 tracks, an appetizer for Baalphegor's upcoming full length debut album called 'The End Of Descent', what ever that means. In Baalphegor's case, it is actually a benefit not to be able to read the lyrics nor to decipher the vocals, due to their not-very-good English, but that's alright: When the music is good, its usually covers for other flaws. And the music is superb. The band calls its style 'Brutal Death Metal' but I tend to disagree. The truth should be known that by no means is it your stereotypical, cliché sort of Brutal Death, with the genre's banal and typical musical structure and characteristics (see Cannibal Corpse). The vocalist is wonderful, keeps and follows the tradition and standards set by the European greatest Death Metal vocals (which I admire, especially their ability to incorporate power, energy, tamed savagery, clarity of vocal ability and brut character, all into their shouts and growls, achieving a vocal effect that perfectly falls into the Death metal style), the drumming is breath taking, accurate and razor-sharp double bass, beautiful and effective blast bits incorporated into the slow-to-mid tempo somewhat progressive drum work. The guitars are well heard and clear sounding as possible, and the third song even reminds me of Hypocrisy's 'The Forth Dimension' and above that, Hypocrisy is definitely one of the main bands I can think of (In its early, good days) while listening to this demo, but there is no attempt in copying or stealing ideas or sound from this or that band.
The demo was recorded in the most professional way, absolutely crystal clear, and thanks to the clarity one can easily hear all instruments (well balanced) including the skilled vocalist. One of the finest demo recording I've had the honor, and with it the pleasure, of listening to. Check out their upcoming album, contact this promising band, all those who live for pure Death Metal, not being nostalgic or archaic, not being even extremely innovative or progressive, one that is being influenced by many but on the same breath keeps its individual uniqueness, chunky, fat and hot Euro Death, Death Metal the way it was always intended to sound like!

These two songs are a little old, but BAALPHEGOR show us what they can make... They play Brutal Death, likes DEEDS OF FLESH, SUFFOCATION or other band of the style. The first song << Voodoo >> they have some very technical rhythms and continuously breaks, that it bow me a little, but they demostrate their very clear technical quality; and the second << Their Warlock King >> I like it more because it's more compact. The sound is very clear, so you can appreciate the control of the instruments, without forget the brutality. I know that be only two songs are not a better impression of a the band, but I have the experience to see them in a gig, and I can secure that they makes rolling our heads (overcoat to the headbanging!!)

This demoCD that presents us this Brutal Death Metal band from Girona (Catalonia), contains two brutal songs "VooDoo & Their Warlock King" with those that demonstrate to have exceed qualities, the name remenber a black metal band but it's not this band. I emphasize with the virtuous menbers that I'm sure if they continue playing at that level they will rain him the offers, the guitars are fucking great, the drums it's a constant beating sticks without rest, the bass puts those a sharp quality that he makes vibrate the songs, the voice are very brutal great, the band is a great candidate to be a legendary band for a simple reason, so they can be compare behind the best bands in the American scene. I'm sure that this band wiil be a revelation band if they continues in their style....

There isn't biography about them, but thanks to the good vibs with the bass player I got their first DEMO-CD. 3 songs of excellent and brutal death metal on american sound, heavy and clean sound. His music is pure brutality, hiper-fast drummer, some excellents solos and powerfull rythmics The trouble is that only there are 3 songs, but we are sure that his next work will be more complete and brutal.

Catalozine REPULSE RECORDS March 2001
Fuck!! Here in Spain we've got bands with a big level, but I don't now why, or they don't are seriously or don't know to promote their work. There are bands like APOCALYPTIC, the now dissolved CHAMBER OF SHREED or just like these BAALPHEGOR, that have an impressive quality, but for some motive nobody know them!! The 2 first never were record nothing , but this group from Girona were record three songs on 1998 and now they send me it. The production is very good!! It seems incredible for a demo. Their style? Brutal death, of course!! They remember me a blend between DEICIDE and DEEDS OF FLESH, althoug perhaps these are more varied, featuring guitar solos and own a ferocity outside of generally. To make stand out their drummer, super technical and precise and the vocal dualities are really brutal. I don't know what you can to get this record and her price. The best thing will be that you write them asking for their demo. They send us a recordable CD with a coloured cover.
